The Wisdom Of
Shit
by Mark Scheel
Dedicated
to the memory of George Carlin
Its been said that history repeats
itself.
With the shit were in, and the shit
of the past,
that assertion makes convincingly good
sense.
The thought occurs, then, that wisdom,
accruing to the aged, absent in the young,
may simply be a recognition of former
shit.
Having stepped in it before, one has the
benefit
of knowing beforehand the stink to follow.
And naiveté, then, is mainly reduced to
the state of unexperienced shit.
Sotake heed you callow little
wizards of smart,
smug in the confidence of your rising sap.
When the fan and the shit are about to
collide,
pay attention to that old gray-headed
bastard,
seated at your elbow, who is raising a
stink.
He possesses a wisdom beyond your years.
In short, he knows his shit. |
