When Worlds
Collide
by Ping Yi Yee
You flip through
the morning paper,
a cuppa beside, tsking at
the world
and its shenanigans. Looking for
the time at the top of the page,
indignant it’s not there.
You scramble car plates on the road,
Scrabble the street signs,
bounty-
hunting bingos, scoring against
invisible opponents; nearly
rear-ending every other car.
You flinch when the Giant Spider-
Crab-Thing jumps on you in-game;
you topple off your chair.
Your spouse glares at you, wondering
what email you’re working on.
You tap the space bar in your mind
to pause the people around you;
hit Ctrl-Z to undo choices, unwind
your path. Yet life has no <backspace>
and the world spins on! |
