Our Friends the Animals
by Craig Inanen

The Alley Cat

The Alley Cat has no morals
It’s cunning and it’s smart
It lives by wits and wits alone
And can see in the dark

The Baying Hound

There is no call like the baying hound
It’s unlike any other
But you can mimic this mournful sound
Which might annoy your mother

The Bear

The common bear is big and brown
The polar bear is white
The grizzly rarely goes to town
And all the bears will bite

The Bluetick Hound

The Bluetick Hound is well developed
Especially ‘round the nose
It smells a scent upon the ground
And follows where it goes

The Budgie Bird

Let us commend the Budgie Bird
Whose melodic call is often heard
Accompanied by an orchestral suite
While dancing daintily down the street

The Camel

The Camel moans and spits and groans
When it is made to stand
It is encouraged with a stick
While traveling cross the sand

The Crow

The Crow’s very much a social bird
It dresses all in black
And if you call out to a Crow
It just might Caw you back

The Gnu

The Gnu don’t care much for me and you
It much prefers to stand and chew
It ruminates a time or two
And swishes its tail when it is through

The Pigeon

The pigeon lives in London town
And also, in New York
It likes to eat things off the ground
And doesn’t use a fork

The Python

The Python is a loving snake
It’s forty-eleven feet long
And if it wants to hug you
Then you best move along

The Scorpion

The scorpion is a nasty thing
In its tail it carries a sting
Arching gracefully over its back
Whenever it’s ready to attack

The Tiger

If you should see a Tiger
On your way out to the park
Travel very cautiously
Particularly after dark

The Wooleygaroo

The wild Australian Wooleygaroo’s a rare and wonderful sight
It lives inside a paper bag and only comes out at night
It drinks Victoria Bitter and snacks on Vegemite
And if it’s had a pint or two it’s looking for a fight
