The Incomplete Guide to Animals of the World
by Craig Inanen

The Ant

The ant is very strong
And also very small
It doesn’t wear no shoes and socks
Or underwear at all

The Bull (The Bull Riders Lament)

The idea of riding a bull
Is thoroughly preposterous
Eight seconds is a very long time
To continue staying ontopterous

The Cat

The Cat naps frequently
And also likes to play
It alternates these activities
Throughout the night and day

The Dog

The Dog waits patiently by the door
Or rests upon the kitchen floor
It follows faithfully to the end
The dog is mankind’s greatest friend

The Earthworm

The Earthworm travels underground
But comes out when it rains
Beneath the earth it can be found
On London subway trains

The Flufferbun

The vanishing western Flufferbun
Got smaller every day
I never really saw one
And now it’s gone away

The Goose

The Canadian Goose will migrate
In the Spring and in the Fall
We should probably celebrate
That Moose don’t fly at all

The Horse

The Horse will stand and graze a bit until the day is done
But if you watch very closely it also likes to run
The first is for nutrition
The second is for fun

The Lion

The Lion’s roar is very loud
It roams around at night
It’s big and fierce and very proud
And has been known to bite

The Octopus

The Octopus has many charms
Embraces culture with eight arms
But the Octopus lives beneath the sea
And so it rarely comes to tea

The Rat

I’ve nothing good to tell you
About the common rat
They’re terribly pestiferous
And might be worse than that

The Robin

The Robin is a red breast bird
That comes around in Spring
It stays until the Fall
The Robin has been known to sing
But it don’t dance at all

The Sheep

The Sheep is placid, calm and kind
When shorn it doesn’t seem to mind
But there’s one thing that makes me mad
I’ve never seen a sheep of plaid

The Sloth

The Sloth just isn’t very fast
When racing invariably comes in last
But if you just want to hang around
It might
Be right
For you

The Snake (Serpentus Slitheriess)

The Snake is not so very tall
And doesn’t have no knees at all
If it’s got ears they’re very small
But brings an apple when it comes to call

The Wallaby

The Wallaby
Don’t live in a tree
Nor burrow underground
It lives down in Australia
Where it hops ‘round and ‘round

The Wanderoo

The Wanderoo has a trick or two
To keep from being seen
For it hides beneath the ocean blue
In a lavender submarine

The Zebra

The Zebra looks much like a horse
Except that it’s got stripes of course
But you’re mistaken if you think
It’s really a horse that’s in the clink
