A Bedside Chat
by Marvin Pinkis

“Say something endearing.”

Phil gazed down at Toby from his perch on the side of the bed, bent close to her ear and murmured, “You’re o.k. in my book.”

“Oh God,” she approached yelling. “Keep ‘em coming, big boy.”

“You’re aces with me.”

A more content sigh was improbable. She lay for a few seconds. “Well?”

“You’re the apple of my eye.”

“And?”

“Uh, let’s see. You’re a dream come true.”

“You have no idea of how much that scummy talk turns me on. I got shivers.”

“As a grand finale, how about ‘you’re the cream in my coffee, you’re a ray of sunshine, or, ready?, you light up my life’”, a veritable outpouring of tributes.

Another deep sigh. “Let's take a break. I need a cigarette."
