Seven O'Clock
(with apologies to A.E. Houseman)
by Andrew Sacks

He slept, nor heard the seconds
Sneaking past the stillness of the quiet town.
One, two, three, four, they went unnoticed
To his pillow’s down.

Snug, warm, nestled in comfort,
He lay there as angels sang;
And then the clock, arriving at its hour,
Was set, and rang.
